“Harry’s House” on Better Homes & Gardens Magazine

Harry Styles promotes upcoming album with a cover on Better Homes & Gardens

Rather than doing a cover on a music-related magazine, Harry Styles chose to promote his newest album on Better Homes & Gardens. He is the magazine’s June cover star, announced just weeks before the release of his third studio album, “Harry’s House”.

While BH&G doesn’t normally have cover stars, Harry Styles is certainly a good choice. He gives one of his most honest and open interviews yet for such a wholesome magazine. He spoke with Lou Stoppard about cold water swimming, lockdown reflections, and his writing process. There’s especially an emphasis on the meaning of “home” as it has changed throughout his career and during the pandemic.

The album title makes a lot of sense in the context of Harry's past music, in which he has consistently referenced “home”. He references “going home” in “Canyon Moon”, “kids in the kitchen” in “Sunflower Vol. 6”, and different rooms in “From the Dining Table” and “Meet Me in the Hallway”.

The food - especially fruit - references often included in Harry’s music continue, as well, with new songs like “Grapejuice” and references to breakfast food in “Keep Driving”.

“Harry’s House” references kitchens and gardens, continuing past themes and making a cover of Better Homes & Gardens a very creative choice. He’s promoting the album as if it were a real home with different rooms, memories, and even a garden. Harry has done covers on Vogue and Rolling Stone in the past, so BH&G is a great way for him to stand out.

It’s a kitschy choice that fits Harry’s personality and perfectly encompasses the vibe of his new album. He’s often recognized for his unique editorial and fashion choices, such as wearing a ball gown on the cover of Vogue last year. This cover is very unique and further develops his creative and campy reputation.

Perhaps this will help Harry Styles’ music to reach a new audience of older women. The feature will likely charm many readers of BH&G and may encourage them to seek out his new album. It would also be great to see a continuation of this theme and this audience with the rest of the album promotion. Maybe an Architectural Digest cover will come next, as it is a more popular home magazine. It would be interesting to see some sort of AD house tour for “Harry’s House,” as many know them for their YouTube videos.
