Billie Eilish’s Album Drop and Spotify’s First Artist Hub

Spotify’s first Artist Hub gives artists more power to shape how people listen to their music.

When Billie Eilish’s sophomore album ‘Happier Than Ever’ was released earlier this month, Spotify celebrated with their first Artist Hub, ‘Happier Than Ever: The Destination’, and several new enhanced listening experiences. The hub gave Billie Eilish an opportunity to shape how listeners could hear her work and provide them with exclusive content, including her favorite songs.

Three playlists - Billie Mode, Lyric Mode, and Fan Mode - featured on the hub each provides a unique listening experience. They use exclusive interviews with Billie, sound clips from fans, and lyrical analysis to celebrate the album and the rising artist.

While unique album experiences have been done before on platforms like Spotify, this one represents a movement towards artists having more power over their work. An artist hub allows Billie Eilish to show listeners the album in the way she intended it to be heard. She has more power to show her vision of ‘Happier Than Ever’ and a greater ability to promote it how she chooses. With more advanced technology in music, artists have an opportunity for greater creative freedom and streaming companies are better able to cater to help the artists they work with.
